Tourism 4.0 is a global initiative. It represents a shift in thinking as it puts the local community in the center of the tourism ecosystem that in addition consists of tourists, tourist service providers and the government. Its aim is to unlock the innovation potential in the whole tourism sector and to create enriched tourist experiences with the help of new technologies....

Communitytourismtech.com wholeheartedly supports the tourism 4.0 initiative as we share the same goals of enhancing community-based tourism through technology and innovative ideas, while promoting sustainable tourism and limiting the negative impact on local community-based tourism socially, economically and environmentally.

Central to the success of any Tourism 4.0 initiative is the collaboration of local stakeholders and the digitizing of all local community-based tourism heritage whether it is simple digital imagery or augmented reality or 3D modeling.

Community based tourism presents many unique challenges specific to each destination. To ensure the success of any pilot project there must be a set of clearly defined goals and problems those goals will aim to address. Any technology deployed to aid in the implementation of the pilot project must be flexible enough to meet the demands of the implementation in each specific destination.

The end goal is to increase revenue and guest spend at community-based micro, small and medium sized businesses but this cannot incur negative impact on the local community or environment. Sustainable, responsible tourism growth is the key to a successful community-based tourism initiative. This must be quantified on an ongoing basis which is why it is imperative that an integrated system is used that includes tracking the social, economic and environmental impact of any initiative deployed.
Enhancing the key areas that impact guest satisfaction and positive interaction between guest and the tourism provider at the community level must be paramount. Often community-based tourism providers require training and affordable technology to access the benefits in these key areas. Affordable, easy to train and easy to use, reliable solutions must be sourced to aid in the growth of community-based tourism in this new digital age where tourist are more connected and technology savvy.
